Lifestyle Mailing Lists Of Local Interest |
The following listservs are oriented
around the BDSM lifestyle in Georgia or the Southeast. By subscribing to a
listserv, you can begin participating in group discussions by email with people having
similar interests and living nearby. This is a great way to get educated and to meet
others in the lifestyle. If you would like to join any of these lists, simply enter
your email address, and then click on the subscribe button next to any list that interests
you.
List
Netiquette - A Bit of Advice On Starting Out On Email Discussion Lists:
Here are a few suggestions for those of you who are new to the "lists"
or keep getting run off of them and can't figure out why.
It is always good when joining a list
to post a little intro and then lurk for a bit to see how things flow. All lists
are different and it usually doesn't take long to gain perspective - kind of the
"when in Rome" acclimatization. If you don't want to post an intro,
then a pleasant non-confrontational comment on an ongoing thread is good. Or
posing a new question to the list with an apology "sorry if this is an old
question but I am new to the list" is usually well received. Newcomers with
manners, even if they can't spell worth a hoot, are often embraced by the
regulars on the list.
But never, never make your first post a flame. Even if your words are valid, the
most lasting effect is a negative image of you. You know how they say first
impressions are very important? Most people - even if they are a nutcase - have
a least one person who thinks they are just fine. So right off the bat, by
attacking someone, you have made them and all their buddies your enemies. This
will last longer than any merit of your post.
Don't worry if a subject gets a bit nuts. Eventually it will die off and new subjects will come along. If you're particularly bored with a subject, suggest a new topic that does interest you. Taking a proactive stance with the lists you are on will make them much more enjoyable for yourself.
A Word Of Caution
And A Bit Of Education On Virus Protection:
There have been a lot of problems lately with viruses being distributed on list services
(I got sent Happy99.exe myself just recently). Email by itself can not infect you.
Even the file attachments being sent cannot infect you. You have to actually
execute the file that was sent for them to infect your system. Picture files or text
files are not a problem because they are not executable programs. If anyone you
don't know really well (and that doesn't necessarily mean anything!) sends you a
file with an .EXE file extension (which IS an executable program), DO
NOT RUN THE PROGRAM! You also need to be careful about
accepting .DOC files for Word For Windows as they can contain macro viruses. To be
safe, I highly recommend that everyone have a virus protection system installed on their
machine. Listservs are VERY safe as long as you follow these simple guidelines.
